School History

In 1980, the school was renamed Ruby L. Thompson Elementary School in honor of Ruby Lockhart Thompson—the first Black female supervisor in Houston ISD—who had served as a teacher and principal at schools in the district and had earned a reputation for high standards before retiring after 46 years of service. She was the daughter of Lucian Lockhart, for whom Lockhart Elementary is named.
